Zack and Miri Make a Porno

What happens when two best friends up to their eyeballs in debt decide to have sex on camera for money?

Lifelong friends and roommates Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are facing hard times and a mountain of debt. When the electricity and plumbing get cut off, they seize upon the idea of making a homegrown porno movie for some quick cash, enlisting the help of their friends.

The two vow that having sex will not ruin their friendship. But as filming begins, what started out as a business proposition between friends turns into something much more.

Kevin Smith has left the safety of his View Askewniverse in which he mainly uses dick and fart jokes and tries something more mainstream with Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and uses dick and porno jokes instead. And he does it to great effect.  Zack & Miri is a thoroughly enjoyable movie which although marketed as an out and out comedy, is really a sweet but foul-mouthed rom-com at heart.  We don’t mean that in a negative way, it’s not cheesy at all and is actually a nice little movie with some genuinely laugh out loud moments.

I’m a big Kevin Smith fan so was a bit concerned about Jason Mewes playing anyone else but Jay (as in Jay and Silent Bob) but he does a good job playing the slightly perverted fool, although I guess it’s not too much of a stretch from Jay who is also a perverted fool.  Seth Rogen is as good as ever and the whole movie is kept together by a really good ensemble cast. 

It’s a great DVD for couples as it’s got the romance for the sensitive souls but it also has the crass language and dirty jokes for the those who enjoy their humor a bit dirtier.
