Wah do dem
Max lives in Brooklyn. He enjoys playing soccer, skateboarding, and drinking with his friends at local bars. Last summer he and his girlfriend, Willow, won a free cruise to Jamaica but two days before the trip she dumps him cold. When his friends flake, Max winds up alone on the high seas, navigating the crowds of gray-haired cruisers. Over the course of several days he flirts with the staff photographer, drinks cocktails with the boat’s celebrity juggler and has several strange encounters with the only other loner.

This film has the very talented and very lovely Norah Jones in it. It is billed that she is in it. How exciting. To be fair she is almost faultless in this picture, how could she go wrong with about 3 minutes of screen time and a headline bill. Very disappointing.
The rest of the film is odd. I am not sure how I was supposed to feel about Max? Is he a loveable loser? Is he just a prick? Is he miss understood? I be honest I think it would be crossing the line for this site to publish my true feelings for the man but they rhythm with runt.
To me he was a typical 20 something American who is going abroad and not really appreciating what it means to get out of the US, to learn a little of the culture that is there and research areas not to mess about in. when I went round Europe at the turn of the century the place was full of them, the sort that would still be using the Wasssuupppp greeting which Budweiser kindly introduced to world, oh and of course that would be the drink of choice for these Muppet too. Max goes to Jamaica with the bohemian feelings of listening to Bob Marley, smoking weed, sinking red stripe before hitting a dance hall.
To be fair he is on his way to living this dream, until he makes one stupid mistake. He leaves his stuff, I mean the stuff when you are on your own in a foreign land you never leave alone, passport, wallet, sunglasses on a beach with a man he met an hour before. The nicest people in the world at the least would take the cash, but this is Jamaica man!
What follows is a great journey across the island to get to the embassy. Without any money or clothes he manges to get far, probably have the time of his life when he looks back on it in a decades time, but he is lucky to be alive.
The film is cool though, once you get over the fact the guy is a moron you get over it. I enjoyed it and would probably watch it once again with other people to see if it is just me that thinks the guy is a doosh bag.
