Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Vicky Cristina Barcelona has become one of the most talked about movies of the year. A sizzling, erotically charged, relentlessly hilarious and touching romantic comedy that won Penelope Cruz a Best Performance By An Actress In A Supporting Role Oscar for her dazzling portrayal of the volatile Maria. Also starring Scarlett Johansen Javier Bardem and Rebecca Hall.

Our story begins in the picturesque surroundings of Barcelona where two American girls are about to find out that they have a lot more in common than they first anticipated. Vicky is practical, studious and engaged. Cristina on the other hand is reckless, adventurous and recovering from a failed relationship. Both of them are about to have their worlds turned upside down by an infamous, bohemian artist called Juan and his psychotic ex-wife.

Woody Allen intrigues me a little as there always seems to be a big hype about any of his films. It made me look back over what it is I have actually seen that he has directed, and it was surprising to see that it was nothing. So this was a new experience, a rebirth into one of American films most hailed movie makers.

So I watched, and to be honest, I really enjoyed it. Two friends who are like magnetic poles with the way they run their lives is a true reflection of life. With some of my close friends it is like that, I went to Europe with three guys and we were all totally different, did we find ourselves when we were there, maybe, but I doubt it.

Watching the on screen partnerships switch from volatile raging ex wife who has pure hate in her eyes, to loving friends, then back to fiery Latino is captivating. The Oscar was truly awarded for an outstanding performance.

So flaunting the European adventurous romances, which a lot of young American girls we met along our way, was what Allen manges to capture, take a little further and truly convey as a dream come true. You wont feel compelled to leave for a trip after watching this, you wont want to hide in the house naked and not leave for days, but you will enjoy this.
