The Punisher: War Zone

June 24, 2009

Punisher: War Zone is the third screen appearance from Marvel Comics’ angel of death, and continues the saga of Frank Castle, a normal New York City citizen turned Mafia-slaying vigilante following the murder of his family. Six years after the tragedy, Frank is still waging war against organized crime in New York.

After he ambushes a party for an aging mob boss and turns it into a bloodbath, the battle moves to a recycling warehouse where Castle pushes gangster Billy Russoti (Dominic West) into a swirling vat of broken glass. During his escape, Castle accidentally shoots one of the FBI men who have arrived on the scene. Russoti undergoes plastic surgery, but after seeing his badly disfigured face for the first time, he shoots his surgeon and dubs himself “Jigsaw.” While a deeply regretful Castle attempts to make amends with the widow (Julie Benz) of the agent he has slain, Jigsaw rallies an army of criminals in an attempt to take down the seemingly indestructible Punisher. Wolverine

April 30, 2009

Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him a superstar - as the fierce fighting machine who possesses amazing healing powers, retractable claws and a primal fury.

X-men Origins: Wolverine tels the story of Wolverine’s especially violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program.  Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-men universe whose appearance in the film series have long been anticipated.

Wolverine is exactly what you’d expect it to be (that is if you haven’t got your hopes up about it), action packed, fairly well paced and chock full of mutant cameos, but unfortunately it just ends up being okay.

I really wanted to be blown away by this movie but it was just satisfactory.  It tries hard and certainly throws enough set pieces and special effects into the mix but unfortunately it just misses the mark and is only a good comic book movie rather than the awesome movie it should have been.

Rather than blow a load of money on Logan fighting some Humvees and Helicopters they should have spent a bit more time on tightening up the story, give Ryan Reynolds a bit more screen time and crank up the violence from 12-A (or PG-13) to at least 15.

If you like X-men than you’re going to enjoy but unfortunately you won’t be overwhelmed by it.

The ultimate bag-man is back in Transporter 3! Jason Statham resumes his role as Frank Martin and he’s still delivering for criminal masterminds. However, this time he’s electronically tagged and his life depends on getting the package there on time!

Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Snipes, Willis, this is the list of pure hardcore action heroes, dudes that get punched on the chin, then they get hit in the back and beaten within an inch of their lives but still have the might to win the fight. Now Hollywood has a replacement for the Politian, the OAP, The tax fraud and the cool guy, they have Statham, and more importantly he is British. [Read more]
