Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them.

Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare - they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. [Read more]

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

August 17, 2009

An elite military unit comprised of special operatives known as G.I. Joe, operating out of The Pit, takes on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.

Okay, two reviews for this film. Please go directly to Adult review if you are over 15.

Under 15?

Man this film is soo cool, like totally awesome and that. It is full of big explosions and mad-trix and that. The story line is rad to the power of sick and and there is massive explosions and that, and wow see it before you see anything or you will be laughed at.

Over 15? then read this.

G.I. Joe is the new spiderman, but missing the vital interesting plot, cool twists and excitement. Annoying this is the first of what appears to be many G.I.Joe films, something tells me that the iconic toy is looking for a new lease of life and they spent the advertising budget in this overly CGI filled drivel.

So are there any good bits? Yes, have you seen them before you go to the theatres? Yes. Of course every film have some of the highlights in the adverts and trailers a few months before it comes out, but GIJ has them all in there. The very cool chase whilst getting shot at for example is really one of the only highlights.

The film could have been in fact a new Transformers, or dare I say it Indiana Jones in the cool franchise stakes (mainly as the last one was such a let down). But it is the story which is just too choppy. It must have been developed by the son of the writer while playing with his G I Joe action man, it just constantly drags on. In an amazing way they manage to explain everything so well that you see the plot twist sometimes before a character has actually spoken. This all leads to the fact they made about 8 endings, and decided that DVD extras are so last year, so stitched them all together.

If your going with kids they will love it. You may want to sneak out when the lights go out and go bowling for 2 hours.

Oh, how I look forward to the 8 sequels, happy meal tie ins, new cartoon, and theme park ride. In fact the best bit was the 2 minute commercial for the toys before the start.

Deleted scene from Watchmen

July 13, 2009

A deleted scene from the movie Watchmen has popped up online.  It shows us the death of Hollis Mason, the original Night Owl.

Usually deleted scenes are dropped for a good reason, either they’re dull, they slow the pace of a film or aren’t really relevant so I thought this was just going to be a bit pointless but it looks really good. [Read more]
