Mutant Chronicles
In the year 2707, war rages between earth’s four giant corporations as they battle over the planet’s dwindling resources. In an era marked by warfare and social regression, the earth is on the verge of ruin, destruction is everywhere; battles explode on every ravaged continent. midst heavy combat, an errant shell shatters an ancient buried seal releasing a horrific mutant army from its eternal prison deep within the earth.
As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a single squad of soldiers descends into the earth to fulfill the ages-old prophesy of the “Mutant Chronicles” and save mankind.
Mutant Chronicles is an extremely average and disappointing Sci-Fi flick. It’s full to the brim with stars, Thomas Jane, John Malkovich, Ron Pearlman and Sean Pertwee are the big hitters and there’s a few more familiar faces but none of them can make this movie any better. In fact Ron Pearlman’s terrible attempt at an Irish accent makes it even more laughable.
Huge amounts of CGI feature in the movie and most of them look good. Even some of the action and set pieces are decent enough but the plot is too formulaic and the script is just full of holes (the whole bit with Sean Pertwee doesn’t make sense considering how fast the mutant’s move and take over). It’s just so boringly average. I’m sure the CGI is the latest state of the art stuff but good visuals don’t make for a great film, has nobody learnt from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (or Casshern for our Asian Cinema lovers)?
Another video game to movie conversion that gets filed in the sh*t section (it’s getting awful full in there).
