Kung Fu Panda Helmer has the Power of Greyskull?
It looks like the 80s are haunting us this week. Wednesday we published the article about The A Team movie being back on track (here) and today Variety have confirmed that John Stevenson has been chosen to direct the second live-action movie version of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Stevenson co-directed the hugely popular Kung Fu Panda but hasn’t done much else on features so it seems a bit of an odd choice considering he has to take the leap from animation to live action. The screenplay for Masters of the Universe is written by Justin Marks. He’s the guy who did the screenplay for the new Street Fighter flick, The Legend of Chun-Li.
With those two behind it it seems like they’re going to go for a lighter affair which is a shame really, I would have loved to have seen a dark and gritty version of He-Man. Still, lets hope they do a better version than the 1987 version featuring Dolph Lundgren. Actually, that’s a bit unfair, looking at it now I can say it was tripe but I remember watching it when I was 7 or 8 and I loved it.
