Into the Woods
Danielle is stuck in a dead end relationship with a married man. It takes a turn for the worse when he leaves her and then comes back and brutality rapes her.
Stripped of everything she wakes drugged and lost in the woods. With a few clues and constant torments. She runs from an unseen character that little by little reveals his intention and who he is. When she returns to reality, an explosive climax ties up all loose ends and conflicts.
I have to be honest I had not heard of this film before I was contacted by the director, and I was a little sceptical. Readers of this site know that we mainly cover major releases, and old classics but this was the first time we have reviewed an indie film. And I liked it.
The concept is magical, if there is something any of us are all afraid of, its not just spiders or monsters, but it is being lost. There are people out there who say I love being lost, that may be true, but after days of being lost panic sits in, and this is the reality of this picture.
At times I wished that this movie had been picked up by a major producer and given a wedge of cash it deserved. Give it cash and you would be able to enhanced the soundtrack and improve parts of the sound and light quality, in the movie one bit of dialog gets lost to a passing plane. Having said this it would have destroyed the brilliance of this film if the budget had of been improved. Passion went into this. I have not seen a more graphic rape scene in any movie I can think of, sure you have attacks like A Clockwork Orange or the battle of the banjos in Deliverance, this was something else. the aftermath scene was the what makes it, truly gritty but not in your face.
An outstanding if only a little short film which I have to admit I did enjoy, and how the director managed to convince his star to spend the majority of the time in her birthday suite I still would like to know. Keep an eye out for the director as big things will surly follow at some point.
