Ghost Town

Bertram Pincus is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy, who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen.

So Ricky Gervais finally has a lead role in a major US Blockbuster, but for fans of his early work such as The Office and his infamous pod-casts, he feels a little restrained in this movie. There is something which you feel is missing from his performance, he never quite gets his teeth into this.

As a romcom this film is no show stopper and as a comedy it is quite underwhelming. That being said it is enjoyable and leaves a little warm feeling inside for the last 20 minutes. It’s not a laugh out loud comedy, but it is just about entertaining enough to keep you interested all the way through.  Cold rainy days are for films like this, sit back, get some horlicks, read the Sunday papers and have this film on in the background.
