Filmchair goes to the BAFTAs
Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the BAFTA awards. Well not quite the award ceremony as such but I was treated to a space in a special pen on the Red Carpet where we got some great access to see all the going’s on of the build up to the ceremony.
For any of those watching Alison’s (big girl from an old Big Brother) report on This Morning, if you looked closely at the background you could see me on the right.
The evening started slow, with just people we didn’t recognise passing us by. Then the cheers swept up the carpet like an audio mexican wave which meant the celebs were arriving.
First we met Noel Clarke (who later went on the win the Orange Rising Star award), he didn’t seem nervous but wasn’t confident of a win either. The Evening Standard asked him who he thought would win best picture and he correctly picked Slumdog millionaire, although he did say he was disappointed not to see any dogs in the movie as he’d assumed it was a sequel to All Dogs go to Heaven.
We weren’t allowed to take professional photos where we were so I’m afraid you’ll just have to make do with my unprofessional ones. Here’s a pic of Noel (Click to make it bigger):
Michael Sheen swiftly walk passed after Noel and ignored us at first but then came back to do a bit of glad handing.
Dev Patel was clearly loving being at the awards. He ran passed us at first, but then ran back signed a few autographs, went off and then dashed back again later. He told The London Paper that he was having a great time and couldn’t believe that he was there considering he was only 18.
Christpoher Mintz-Plasse was there and came over to say hello even though his fans didn’t seem to know his name and were just shouting Fogell or McLovin.
Later we met Daniel Craig, Robert Downey Jnr and David Fincher and a few others who’s names escape me right now. In fact one of my favourite moments was watching one of my fellow bloggers interviewing Colin Salmon even though they didn’t know who he was.
So where were the major names I hear you ask? Brad & Angelina, Micky Rourke, Meryl Streep? Well they were there too but unfortunately by the time they got to us they were cold and wet and had had enough so we were snubbed. I was stood right by one of the guys from Hecklerspray and he got some great footage of these big names dissing us, check it out.
And that was that. After the celebs were herded in we went into the theatre next door to watch the event on the big screen.
If you want some more professional interviews you can see Fearne Cotton interviewing a whole host of people on the Orange website.
Here’s a complete run down of all the winners and losers from last night.
