Film Chair goes to the premiere of Austrailia
We were lucky enough to be invited to the UK Premiere of Australia, and by invite I don’t mean we got a press pass and had to stand outside in the cold, we actually got to walk up the red carpet with the stars.
This privilege has its ups and downs, we got to walk the carpet, see the film and eat free popcorn but unfortunately we weren’t able to get that many good pictures or an interview with one of the stars. So we’ll cheat and put some in here from other sites.
We walked up the red carpet at about 6.15pm and passed Baz Luhrmann being questioned by a mob of people thrusting microphones at him and Hugh Jackman being interviewed by a famous television presenter. Nicole arrived just after we were seated so we missed all the kerfuffle with her.
Here’s a pic of me just at the entrance of the red carpet.
Elton John attended the event too and sat just a few rows in front of us. When he’d settled down, Sky’s Alex Zane introduced Baz Luhrmann who gave a brief speech about how 16 years ago, in the same venue, he’d successfully screened Strictly Ballroom after which he was able to carry on making films as the movie hadn’t really been received that well else where and he thought that might be the end of his career.
Baz introduced Hugh and Nicole who then joined him on stage. Hugh was quite funny and went on about how copies of People Magazine featuring the sexiest man article now gets him free upgrades on flights. I tried to get a pic of him but unfortunately the digital zoom on my camera is a bit hit and miss, here’s the best one:
Then the film began. You’ll have to wait and see for our detailed review at a later date but I’ll give you my opinion; it’s alright but a bit too long.
Here’s a few more snaps from the film.
If you want to see how the professionals do it, the BBC has quite a good piece of coverage which can be found here.
