FAQ About Time Travel

Twentysomething sci-fi geek Ray (O’Dowd) works at an amusement park with fellow dweeb Toby (Wootton) and down-to-earth scallywag Pete (Lennox Kelly). When Ray is fired, the three head to their local where, after a trip to the gents, sci-fi hating Pete experiences a bizarre vision of the future in which everyone in the pub has been horribly murdered.

Meanwhile, Ray bumps into the beautiful Cassie (Faris) at the bar, who promptly informs him that she is from the future and a huge fan of his ground-breaking work on time travel.

As events take a turn for the even more weird, the three pals find themselves buffeted between the near and distant future as they try to prevent the massacre witnessed by Pete.

I was actually really looking forward to seeing this homegrown comedy.  I love movies about time travel and I always enjoy Chris O’Dowd so was expecting great things, especially as the cover of the DVD claims it’s like “Dr Who meets Shaun of the Dead”.  Unfortunately I was let down.

It’s not that FAQ…. is a bad film, it’s just that it’s a plainly average romp with a handful of laughs.  Normally that would be OK but as I had my hopes up it was a disappointment.

If you have no expectations and want something a British comedy to slightly amuse you for just an hour and twenty minutes then this will do the job.  If you’re looking for a really funny, clever and quirky movie that will keep you enthralled then you’ll be a bit disappointed.  Probably just best off watching an episode of Dr Who and then Shaun of the Dead again.
