Bolt gets Britain’s Dog to Bark the Loudest

Dozens of UK dogs, with their owners in tow, went walkies into the Guinness Book of World Records last week when they broke the record for the loudest bark in history.

On an evening that rained cats and dogs - more than 50 pooches - from pedigrees to mixed bred mutts, gathered in Finsbury Park, to follow in the pawprints of fictional superdog Bolt - the new Disney hero whose comedy adventure launched on Blu-ray and DVD yesterday.

And far from making a dog’s dinner of taking the title from the current American holders, the Brits’ collective bark rose to 115 decibels, four decibels louder than the existing record set in Vermont, USA, last year.

And one heroic white German shepherd - Daz, from London, set a second Guinness World Record for the loudest ever dog bark - at an ear-piercing 108 decibels. The thunderous hound was hand-picked by Disney to take part in the record attempt - because of his striking resemblance to Bolt and clearly his Superbark did not disappoint.

Despite the lightning strikes overhead, British dogs did Bolt proud and stormed their way into the record books.

Top dog at Guinness World Records Marco Frigatti was on hand to oversee the record attempt and declared the attempt a success.

Marco said: “Dogs bark for a variety of reasons, to attract attention or express excitement, today they barked to become Guinness World Record holders. Congratulations.”

Disney’s Gavin Quirk said: “The Big Bolt Bark has brought pride to the nation. We wanted to do something special to launch the DVD and as Bolt has a supersonic super bark in the movie we wanted to get British dogs upping their volume to create a new world record.”

Academy Award nominated BOLT (2008, Best Animated Feature Film) is the first Disney feature to be conceived and produced under the guidance of Oscar®-winning director John Lasseter - the studio’s Chief Creative Officer and the brains behind Toy Story, A Bug’s Life and Cars.

Voiced by two times Academy Award nominee John Travolta, Bolt is the star of the biggest show in Hollywood. The only problem is, he thinks the whole thing is real. When the super dog is accidentally shipped to New York City and separated from Penny - voiced by Miley Cyrus - his beloved co-star and owner, Bolt springs into action to find his way home.

Bolt’s super bark is especially impressive on the high-definition Blu-ray disc which not only delivers five times the picture quality of DVD but also unbelievable sound.

Don’t miss Bolt’s great adventure on Disney Blu-ray and DVD now.
